Strawberries

June - August

Swedish strawberries are one of summer’s greatest taste experiences. The harvest usually starts in June and continues until about August, depending on the weather and region.

During this time, the berries are carefully hand-picked when they are fully ripe, juicy, and full of sweetness. What makes Swedish strawberries unique is the cool climate and the long bright days, which give them extra time to develop flavor.

Just like in all other fruit families, there are several different kinds of strawberries. Early in the season we often encounter Honeyoe and Sonata, which are then replaced by Senga Senaga, Polka, Elsanta and Gloria; last but not least, the season usually ends with Malwina, Florence, Evie and a later variety of Sonata. In other words, there can be a big difference between strawberries depending on when during the summer you eat them.

Did you know that

A medium-sized berry can have around 200 tiny seeds on its surface, and each seed is actually its own little fruit. In other words, each strawberry is really a large collection of small, tiny fruits.
