Mango

Mango is a tropical fruit known for its sweet, aromatic flavor and its soft, juicy flesh. It originates from South Asia but is now grown in many warm countries around the equator, where the climate provides optimal conditions for developing both sweetness and fragrance.

In Sweden, mango is an imported fruit available year-round, but it is at its best from winter to early spring. During that period, the largest shipments come from South America, where the harvest season produces fruit with high ripeness and a good balance between sweetness and acidity.

During the summer, mango is available, but it can be somewhat less aromatic because it is sometimes harvested earlier to withstand transport. The opposite, tree-ripened mango, means that the mango has been allowed to ripen in the sun before harvest, which has given the fruit every opportunity to develop its flavor as much as possible, instead of being harvested before full ripeness and then ripened in storage.
