The Micro Farm

Mikrogården is an urban farm in Gamlestaden in Gothenburg, which has been growing microgreens through indoor vertical farming since 2019.

The cultivation produces various types of microgreens, including pea shoots, radish shoots, broccoli shoots and sunflower shoots, which are grown in organic soil. Microgreens are young shoots of vegetables and herbs that are harvested early in the plant's development, when the first leaves have developed. They are known for their intense flavor and high nutritional content.

Through vertical farming, Mikrogården can produce crops on multiple levels on top of each other in a controlled indoor environment. This makes it possible to grow fresh food year-round and in a small space, which is well suited to urban environments. Local production also reduces the need for long transportation and contributes to a more sustainable food system.

Mikrogården's vision is to contribute to a more sustainable and self-sufficient food system in cities through local production of nutritious crops. Through innovative cultivation methods and short transport distances, they want to make it possible for more people to gain access to fresh and sustainably produced food.

Broccoli sprouts are fun to grow and one of the healthiest microgreens

Hi, what is the most fun thing at Mikrogården?
We work a lot on continually developing the business, and that is fun. We are influenced by LEAN and the Kaizen principle, which means that we continuously make small improvements in order to keep developing and improving little by little. Of course, it is also fun to build relationships with and meet our customers.

What is the most challenging thing about what you do?
The most challenging thing is achieving a good balance between the quality of the input materials, the environment in the cultivation areas, and production. And making production line up with sometimes uneven orders.

Which product in your assortment is your favorite?
Broccoli shoots are fun to grow and one of the healthiest microgreens!

If you weren't working with your cultivation, what would you have focused on then?
Then we would probably have worked with mushroom cultivation, and that is actually something we are moving into now.

What is your best tip for a hobby grower who wants to grow at home in the garden?
It's not really applicable to our business, but our tip is to grow things that take a little time and that feel a bit luxurious. For example, herbs and edible flowers.
