Apple

August - October

In Sweden, apples ripen in late summer and early autumn, usually from late August to early October, depending on the variety and weather conditions.

During this time, Swedish apples are carefully picked straight from the trees. The fruit is full of flavor and vitamins. They are often perfect both for eating as they are and for using in classic recipes such as pie, jam, or juice.

Each variety has its own character. Some are sweet and mild, while others are more tangy. Buying and consuming Swedish apples in season means that you get to enjoy the fruit when it is at its best, naturally ripe and full of flavor.

However, some apples, for example Åkerö, actually become even better if they are stored after harvest. A fuller flavor and a crisper texture then develop, which means that today it is often possible to enjoy Swedish apples long after the initial season.

Aroma's Picks

From our foreign growers, we are championing the Val Venosta brand, which grows apples in Italian South Tyrol. The orchards are located in high-altitude valleys that offer warm days and cold nights. This allows the apples to develop more flavor while their acidity is perfectly balanced.

Did you know that

Did you know that some apple varieties can also be eaten by some people with apple allergy? Apple allergy is often caused by a protein called Mal d 1, which makes many people react to raw apples. But some varieties, such as Gloster, Elise and Santana, have much less of the protein, which means that for many people, they can still be eaten raw without any problems.
